umm..creepy, much?

3.29.2011

I have to tell you something.
My roommate Kayla has 3 fish.
Champion/Leroy, unnamed, and unnamed.
at approximately 6:00, all three fishies were swimmin' around all happily in their tank.
at 8:45, Kayla looks to her fish tank and sees all three fish a-floating at the top of the water.
dead.
all at the same time.
How the heck does that happen?!
We must solve this mystery.
Oh, wait.
there is one survivor.
It is not champion, however.
And he is in critical condition, being nursed back to health.
He just threw up his food.

Also, my Spanish teacher didn't assign homework today.
How lovely is that?
I'm off to watch the Office.
xoxo!

The Festival of Colors

was fantastic.

Try.

"Try a little harder to be a little better."

I'm cooler than I thought.

3.24.2011

Kay. Guys. I'm so excited right now!
When you read this, you're probably going go think I am such a nerd.
I just finished my first batch of indexing! I only worked on it for 30 minutes and I did 50 names!
Isn't that cool?!
It probably actually doesn't sound cool to you...
But I swear if you gave it a try, you'd love it too.
It's a good feeling...
doing work for somebody that they can't do themselves.
(Think about that person that did the most ultimate thing for you, that you could NOT do yourself.
That's what got me going for it.)
For those of you who don't know what indexing is,
all you do is read these old, hard-to-read *censuses
and they take the information you uncover and eventually those become names that we do baptisms for at the temple!
I say...that you should all sign up and start!
It doesn't take long, and you can do it whenever you want to.
Seriously...you'll feel good about yourself.
Plus! It's service! Service that doesn't include picking weeds for somebody...
okay? So go sign up. now.
You can do so here.

Have fun!

Love, Kay.

Notes: * I do not know how to spell the plural of census.

Oh my gosh, those are sheep! I thought they were rocks.

3.23.2011

I like Kelsey a lot.
So much, in fact, that I'll probably make her a bridesmaid if I ever get married.
Today she told me she'd be back from class at 3:00 so we could go get cupcakes.
I'd been craving one (some) all day.
So at 3:08, I sent her a text.
"Getchur butt home! We need cupcakes!"
And then upon the realization that I hadn't been able to visit my sister this week,
We decided we'd go get our cupcakes in St. George at 25 main.
since it's the greatest place to get cupcakes and all.

Those little munchkins each ate two cupcakes a piece!

I'm glad that I have a sister that let's me visit her so often.
And sometimes steal her kids and feed them lots of sugar.
I'm also glad I have a best friend that likes cupcakes as much as I do
and is willing to drive an hour each way just to get some.
I also think the boyfriend likes it when I bring him home surprise cupcakes. :)

Happy Wednesday!

--Kalynn Eve.

What got left out.

3.22.2011

There were some pictures/occasions that got left out of my blog during Spring break by accident.
I thought I'd fill you in now.

Matthew and I like to eat.
We especially like breakfast.
So we planned a brilliant breakfast of sausage, bacon, french toast, eggs, and smoothies.
We decided to be nice and invite Kels and Adam along too.

yeah, yeah. I'm hawwtt. Tell me about it.
not.

Matthew took me out to Fazoli's, cause that's our place.
They just keep handing you breadstick after breadstick.
Would you think differently of me if I told you that we ate 10 by the end of the night?
Cause...we really did.
But in my defense, it wasn't 10 each.
Just...10 total.

Lastly, I finally got to go see my newest nephew:
Cole Nolan Johnson.
He's such an adorable baby!
He totally looks like a little man, doesn't he?
I'm such a lucky aunt.

And...that's it.
you will hear no more talk of Spring Break in these parts.
Summer break is coming in 6 weeks though.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

--Love Always,
Kalynn
.

p.s. MOM: I forgot to bring that big box of goldfish to Cedar that you bought for me. Don't let Adam eat them.

I WILL

3.21.2011

have one of these in my future home.

In other news: Spring Break was a major success.
Coming back to Cedar City: epic failure.
too much snow & wind to be the second official day of Spring.

buh.hum.bug.

bleh.

3.20.2011

Spring Break is over.
In an hour I'll be leaving to go back to Cedar City.
I'm not excited.
Why must all good things come to an end?
Good thing I'll be back next Friday for the Festival of Colors.

b.r.b., A.F.

10 things that made today a good day.

3.18.2011

1: I got to see Brielle for the second day in a row. I love my BSFF. :] :]
2: Brielle took me to see the apartment we're going to be living in this fall. I adore it. It's so cute, it's got new carpet, tile, and cupboards, the kitchen is big, and decorating will be fun and easy.
3: The boyfriend took me to Jamba Juice. mm.mm.mmmm.
4: I went to a movie. I haven't been to a movie in AGES. Ages, I'm tellin' ya.
5: The movie was "Just Go For It." It's a fantastic comedy and I highly recommend it.
6: I went to said movie with my friend of 15 years, Tristan Winterton. oh, how I miss that girl.
7: I got to eat leftover steak for lunch.
8: My bracket is doing well. woot, woot!
9: I got home before 11:00, which means I might just get to bed at a decent hour tonight!
10: I get to go see my newest nephew tomorrow: Mr. Cole Nolan Johnson.

Other important matters:
--Can I just inform everyone how terrible of a song "Friday" is? What is all the buzz about it? It's not well written. The music video is completely ridiculous. And it doesn't even make me excited for Fridays.

--The boyfriend is on a camp out and I miss him...wah. poor me. boo.
-- seeing my future apartment and being around my future roommates made me way too excited for fall. It's going to be such a fun, good atmosphere!

--One of my favorite cousins is having his farewell on Sunday. I'm sad I won't see him for two years!

kay that's all. :)
-- Kalynn.

4 a.m.

3.15.2011

I woke up to Nathan smacking his lips, so I thought I'd go see if I could help make him more comfortable.
I sat up way too fast and fell backward off my bed. So I spent about 10 minutes laying on the floor crying at myself. Which turned into talking to myself. And telling myself jokes. And then I proceeded to laugh at myself. Because I actually thought I was funny.

By the time I walked into his room, Nathan was asleep again.

4 a.m. does terrible things to me.

at 7:00, I woke up so tired that I couldn't even remember my own name if you asked. I also thought my alarm clock was an atomic bomb, and it efforts to disable it and save all mankind, I hucked that thing across my room, where it came in crashing contact with my wall.

My name is Kalynn Petersen and I [do not] approve this message.

When the parents are away, the kids play!

3.14.2011

Since my lovely parents have been on their anniversary vacation (30 years, people!)
and since Adam's girlfriend is newer than my boyfriend (apparently that gives him more right to be out from the time he wakes up until 4:00 in the morning...)
I was lucky enough to be able to have Nathan all to myself from 4:00 in the morning on Sunday until 3:00 this afternoon!
I'm not being sarcastic.
We had a blast!
A few of our activities include:

a walk with Mrs. Bones out in the sunshine
laying out on the tramp
practicing piano and singing hymns
watching Forever Strong
playing Yahtzee
playing Sorry
and baking snickerdoodles!

Not gonna lie.
Taking care of Nathan by myself for an entire day is hard work..
but it's totally worth it.
It's so much fun.
what can I say?
I love the kid!

Needless to say, it's been a good start of my spring break.

I hope each of you has a great week. :)

Love, Kay.

10 thing I learned this weekend.

3.13.2011

1: Sleep is one of life's little pleasures.
2: I really really miss my parents!
3: This Spring Break is going to be a lot different than I thought it would be.
4: I need more girl friends. or..I at least need to spend more time with those that i DO have. Brielle! Where are you?!
5: I like the boyfriend even more than I thought I did. Who'da thunk it was possible?!
6: It's perfectly acceptable to eat graham crackers and milk for every meal.
7: It's really hard to watch movies when the sun is so rudely shining through your windows! (but..whatevs. I'd rather have sun. )
8: I am dying to go to the beach.
9: I adore spending my entire Sunday with Nathan.
10: Reeses cravings are too strong to fight.

[sigh.]

3.12.2011

My heart is relieved.
and so I smile.

my body is retaliating against me!

3.10.2011

I woke up with a swollen finger (finally managed to pry my ring off, 15 hours later. Owchhh!)
and a bruised knee.
My theory: my altar-ego is Chuck Norris.
Therefore, while I think I'm sleeping I'm really out bustin' caps and what not.
That explains the battered body parts.

No, actually. Today was SUCH a beautiful day outside, that I thought I'd run TO the gym, do my workout, and then run back home.
It's only 2 miles from my dorm to Gold's, ( I just checked on google earth.)
so the run there was a breeze.
Then I did my workout.
Did I mention that Thursdays are legs?
Not such a great run home.
Plus, the wind was totally conspiring against me.
To passersby, I probably looked I was purposely trying to run slow-motion.
Twas not the case.

Also, Kelsey and I did like...SIX climbs at the rock wall today.
My forearms are a-killin' me!

Anyway. The boyfriend just arrived with Brownies!!
I must depart.

Love to all,

Love, Kalynn Eve.

I am horribly limited.

3.09.2011

I can never read all the books I want.
I can never be all the people
I want to be or live all the lives I want.
I can never train myself in all the skills I want.
And why do I want?
I want to live and feel all the shades, tones, and variations of mental
and physical experiences possible in life.

I like living.

"I have sometimes been

wildly,
despairingly,
acutely miserable,
racked with sorrow,
but through it all,
I still know quite certainly,
that just to be alive is a
grand thing."

3.07.2011

Guess what this week entails?
Monday- a trip to Lins for some groceries, and Spanish Oral studying.
Tuesday- Spanish oral at 11:05, playing with my sister and the niece and nephew until 2:30, baptisms at the St. George temple with this lovely girl and Ashley Shay Remund, and then lunch at Cafe Rio. mm. mm. mm!! Glee at 7:00 at Kortney and Paige's place. (wanna know a secret? The Boyfriend admitted to falling in like with Glee! yessss.)
Wednesday- classes. blah. but no Spanish! and probably some homework.
Thursday- boarding? maybe. I have to think about it. I'm so sick of the snow, that I may or may not be done for the season.
Friday- heading home! For ten days!! I love me some Spring Break.
What do you all have planned for the week?
--Kalynn Eve.
p.s. remember how I fell asleep on the grass in the sunshine on Saturday? two days ago? today= snow storm. Betcha can't guess who slipped and fell on their butt on their way to class.
ask me how much I like the snow.
I dare you.
p.ps. Have you seen Cinderella Man? I daresay it is one of the most inspiring flicks ever. You'd be stupid not to check it out.

saturdays rock my socks.

3.05.2011

Today has been such a good day.

-I had a babysitting job that was supposed to go from 10-2:30, and I was supposed to leave when the older sister got back home, so the mom just left me a check for $45.00. Lucky me, the sister got back at 12:30! So I got paid $45, for only 2 and a half hours.

-When I got back to my room, Adam and Kelsey were playing a game of nuts. I joined in, and kicked their butts in only 3 rounds. (they had already even played a couple!)

-When it was time for homework, I drove around to find a good spot outside to lay out and do it, since it was such a beautiful day outside. I found the perfect spot right next to a baseball field where a game was going on. So I got to watch baseball AND do my 3 ridiculously long math assignments at the same time.

-I fell asleep out there on the grass. I woke up to a bunch of Asains surrounding me and talking loudly at me in Korean or something. I looked at them blankly and said "come on..I know you speak English." and then one says "we want to play soccer." And then I look around me and realize that I am laying in the middle of a soccer field, and a game is about to start. I got a lot of weird looks from the parents. haha.

-I came back home and read my scriptures. That's always a happy thing. :)

-I also wrote in my journal! It was about time...

-And now, the boyfriend should be home any minute, and I get to spend the rest of the night with him.

Did you have a good Satuday? Tell me about it!

Love, Kalynn.

p.s. Only one more week until Spring Break!!

I just had an epiphany. Gleek, much?

3.02.2011

Throughout the day, I've had a lot of negative feelings about today.
-when it was time to get up for my workout, I had a hard time finding the motivation.
-while on my run, it seemed to take twice as long.
-for breakfast, I had to use the very end of the loaf of bread for my toast.
-I tripped over some kid's leg at the very front of the classroom filled with 108 students.
-My math teacher decided it would be cool to have a freshman sub for her and teach us today's lesson...do you assume that went well?
-The boyfriend made me try a corn nut. yuck.
-I tried painting my nails FOUR times today, but each time I kept messing up.
-There was absolutely nothing edible to eat at the cafeteria for dinner tonight.
-Spanish homework takes forrrrevvvver. forever. forever.

And..then I realized that I'm not usually this pessimistic about my days, even when they go wrong. I figured that today must have been bad because of something that happened to me yesterday. And then I figured out what that something was.

Glee did not play yesterday. :(
No Sam for Kalynn.

hahaha. :) Who are my fellow gleeks?
By the way, today hasn't been too bad. I'm just stoked for tomorrow.

Best wishes for all of your tomorrows!
--Kalynn Eve.

DISCLAIMER: I'm about to get personal.

3.01.2011

Oh, Ophelia. Poor, poor Ophelia.
Ophelia is my dear laptop. I diagnosed her with cancer when a two black spots of death showed up on her screen.
They started out small, but, like cancer sometimes does, spread rapidly until they covered much of the screen.
So I had to take her into the Geek Squad. They really know their stuff. And they are taking care of her.
She is in good hands. Anyway...the reason I am explaining this to you, is because I am using it as an excuse
for not having shared the joyous celebration of my youngest brother Nathan's 18th birthday yet.

His birthday was Friday the 26th, but the fiesta had to be a post-birthday celebration, because the whole fam damily couldn't arrive
until late-ish Friday night. We spent Saturday afternoon (after the BYU game, of course) bowling, because Nathan is one heck of a bowler.
Later, we retired to our humble abode for a fabulous grilled steak dinner, present opening session, and the best mud pie in the world.
I could only stay 24 hours, for a bunch of us had prior Sunday commitments.

Leaving my mama, papa, and Nathan is always hard after fun weekends at home, but I found this time..even harder. I'm so surprised that Nathan is 18. Can you believe that? Many of you, my kind readers, have known me for quite some time, but do you recognize the fact that Nathan was only 8 when he had his drowning accident? I'm sort of having a hard time accepting with the fact that he's been this way for more of his life than he has not. What I hate even worse, is that the older I get, the less I remember of those first 8 years of normalcy. But I do have a few memories.

I remember the time that we were fighting, and I pushed him to the ground and he slid across our hardwood floor; it gave him burns on his elbows. I immediately recognized that I'd done something regretful and apologized. He yelled "KALYNN! Do you really think SORRY will make the burns go away?!" haha. I can still hear his voice yelling those words to me.

I remember playing pirates on the bunk bed that he and Adam used to share in our house on Centennial Drive.

I remember having beanie baby wars. Each kid in my family collected them and had at least 30. We'd gather in a room, turn off all the lights, and ballistically hurl each baby individually everywhere we could, hoping to hit someone.

I remember when we would go to our "pretend grandparents'" (the Moores') house and I would bake cookies, fudge, or some other delicious dessert with Sister Moore, while he would work on a birdhouse or other wood project of sorts with Brother Moore.

I remember playing catch with him in the backyard every day, every summer. I know he'd still be playing if he could.

I remember dancing on the wall with him to N'SYNC or the Backstreet Boys. He definitely had the moves.

I remember the time when we were watching Adam's little league baseball game, and Nathan wandered around, found an interesting switch, decided to flip it, and turned out the field lights.

I remember when I used to tease him, "Nathan loves Tristan" saying it the way they do on the 3 ninjas.

I remember that the last words I ever heard him speak were, "Be safe, have fun, I love you, Kalynn."

Dear Nathan,
I love you buddy. I hope you enjoyed your 18th birthday.
I miss you everyday.
You're the main reason I want to go to BYU, you know.
I can't stand being so far away from you.
You're the best example I have in my life.
You're the sweetest boy I'll ever know.
Keep hangin' in there, kid. :) You're doing great.

Love, Kalynn.
