WE'RE ENGAGED!

11.01.2017

Jake was somehow able to pull off the BEST SURPRISE of my life!!

It was a Wednesday, and Jake and I originally had plans to carve pumpkins with Nathan. However, I had woken up with a cold that morning, and my mom didn't want me getting too close to Nathan. So about an hour before we were supposed to carve pumpkins, I sent Jake a text letting him know that we'd need to make other plans, and I suggested watching TV or something, haha. Jake immediately calls me and says that we should go fishing one more time before it gets too cold for the season. I agreed, and we decided to meet up an hour later.

Jake picked me up at my house, looking very fresh I might add, and from there we drove up to his parents' to grab the fishing stuff. We both got nostalgic on our drive, talking about how we went fishing on our first date, and about all the fun and special moments and dates we've had since then. After picking up the fishing gear, we headed to Deer Creek to do our fishing.

Jake had been mentioning for a few months that he wanted to get a cool time lapse, so while I was setting up our chairs, Jake was setting up his camera to get a time lapse "of the water."

We start fishing, and after a few unsuccessful casts, Jake suggests we try a new bait. I knew we wouldn't stay long, because I was pretty sick and it was pretty cold, but I said I wanted to try one more cast with that bait, and then we'd switch it.

When it's time to switch the bait, Jake got up and walked over the the tackle box, and knelt down in front of it. He asked me to come stand in front of him and hold up the fishing pole. As I'm standing there holding the fishing pole, I notice Jake fumbling around in his sock, (I couldn't see his socks at this time, but they said "MARRY ME" and had a little tiny pocket to hold the ring in!) and I realize that he's on one knee, and that this is probably the moment he's going to propose! After a few seconds, he says, "Kalynn Eve Petersen..." .... "Will you marry me?"

I was stunned! I looked up at the camera that he had planted, that was taking pictures every couple of seconds, and back at him, just in shock! I was the one who changed the plans! How did he surprise me so well?! After a few seconds I blurted out, "ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!"

He put the ring on my finger, we kissed and hugged, and I was surprised for the rest of the night! It was incredible, and it was perfect.

Afterwards, we cleaned up our fishing gear and went to dinner up at Sundance, where he had Sunflowers waiting on our table for me.

We spent the night eating our dinner and gushing to our families about our engagement.
I am THE absolute luckiest girl that has ever lived, because I get to spend my life with God's very best.

I LOVE JAKE HASLER!

LUNCH DATES + FISHING DATES

7.06.2017

The past week has felt like a dream! It's been so much fun, and I feel like I've got some catching up to do around here. I guess that's what happens when you use a blog as a sort of journal and then don't write in it every single day!

Last Wednesday I got to go to lunch Rachel and Berkley! I can't really explain how good it felt to walk up to them at our outside table at Blue Lemon in City Creek. I wish I could have taken a deep breath in that would've soaked up the goodness of it all. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining, birds were chirping, my friends were smiling and laughing, and then the arrival of our food made us even happier, of course, haha.

It was a quick lunch so Ray could get back to work on time, but we got each other all caught up on the last month, and I got to hug some of my best friends, so it was just perfect.

The next day Jake and I went on a double fishing date with his best friend Christian. Luckily I really love all of Jake's friends that I've met, (so far, winky face haha) so I was excited to go fishing with Christian and his date! Fishing is the best. Especially when you catch something, which Jenna did right before we were about to leave!

It was also fun because it's been nearly two years since Jake and I went on our first date, and we went fishing on that date, too. It kind of made me a little emotional to think back on that first date and see where we are now. You just never know where life is gonna take you, you know?

Also, can we talk about his smile and beard and eyes and hair, cause MMMM.
He's a real attractive human being, if you ask me. or anybody.

This is our attempt at recreating the picture we took on our first date. :)

MONDAY THOUGHTS

11.14.2016

Today I came across this picture from a cabin/fishing trip with some friends a few months ago. I can remember this day vividly. It was an incredible day, for no incredible reason. That's just how fishing makes me feel.

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the pace of life that I forget to unwind and revel in the beauty of God's creations. There is so much to be revealed to us in those quiet moments of contemplative privacy. Things incapable of being put in words and explained to others, but things known to ourselves.

You know what I'm sayin'??

I am grateful.

Ode to Summer:

7.01.2010

Here's to:
:summer hikes.
-Tuesday I went on a group date with my good friend Jordan Gunderson and 12 other fun personalities I haven't seen since graduation. We went on a fun five mile hike up a nearby mountain to see some waterfalls. Only..we never did find those waterfalls..

:summer fishing!
-I've been waiting my entire life for this moment! And finally I was granted the opportunity. My dear friends Jared Hall, Mikelle Pyne, Matthew Ludlow, and I took J-Hall's truck to Lone Peak {approx. 1 min. away from my home} and did some serious night fisihing..for my first time ever! Matt caught some moss...but other than that the catching was on the down side..nothing. But it's okay..we sort of expected that, so we brought some Sweedish fish for our enjoyment.

:summer biking.
-tandem biking that is! Matt's dad bought a tandem bike a few years back, but no one used it for a long time because the tube in the back wheel had a hole. So we repaired it the best we could and it actually lasted us a good long bike ride! Matt's quite the handy man. We rode all over town and everyone we passed smiled and waved, because everyone thinks tandem bikes are the cutest thing ever. Which they are. But all good things come to an end and finally our poor tubing job just couldn't handle it anymore and it went completely flat. I think next time we feel like biking, we'll just go buy a new tube..:summer nickel cade nights!
-We've fallen in love with this place. There are so many great games! It's a fantastic way to have a wonderful time.

p.s. we love DDR.

Cheers,
Kay.
