Even though.

5.02.2011

Even though it's currently 5:48 and I am still in American Fork,
and even though I have a final at 11:00 in Cedar City,
and even though I never made time all weekend to study,
and even though I'm pretty sure it will be my hardest one,
I don't really mind.
Cause I got to see my beautiful, new baby nephew get blessed,
and I got to see all my family together, which hasn't happened in a while.

Bring it on.

4.19.2011

Recently, I have been indebted to a life of servitude - with the slave owner being SUU.
He (with violent force, mind you) manipulates me into giving away epic portions of my life to
textbooks, exams, and lectures on how mechanical pencils are forbidden on text day.
"Umm hi...,mechanical pencils are my weapon-of-choice in brutal combat, such as my history final. Suck."

Anywho. Kalynn's leetle brain needed a big break.

Then Matthew and I went to the St. George Temple.
The baptismal font room enjoyed our reverent company for the perfect amount of minutes.

And suddenly, Kalynn's little brain feels like it can take on these final two and a half weeks of the semester.

I WILL

3.21.2011

have one of these in my future home.

In other news: Spring Break was a major success.
Coming back to Cedar City: epic failure.
too much snow & wind to be the second official day of Spring.

buh.hum.bug.

bring it on.

3.07.2011

Guess what this week entails?
Monday- a trip to Lins for some groceries, and Spanish Oral studying.
Tuesday- Spanish oral at 11:05, playing with my sister and the niece and nephew until 2:30, baptisms at the St. George temple with this lovely girl and Ashley Shay Remund, and then lunch at Cafe Rio. mm. mm. mm!! Glee at 7:00 at Kortney and Paige's place. (wanna know a secret? The Boyfriend admitted to falling in like with Glee! yessss.)
Wednesday- classes. blah. but no Spanish! and probably some homework.
Thursday- boarding? maybe. I have to think about it. I'm so sick of the snow, that I may or may not be done for the season.
Friday- heading home! For ten days!! I love me some Spring Break.
What do you all have planned for the week?
--Kalynn Eve.
p.s. remember how I fell asleep on the grass in the sunshine on Saturday? two days ago? today= snow storm. Betcha can't guess who slipped and fell on their butt on their way to class.
ask me how much I like the snow.
I dare you.
p.ps. Have you seen Cinderella Man? I daresay it is one of the most inspiring flicks ever. You'd be stupid not to check it out.

Okay..

2.25.2011

Surprisingly* (notes at bottom), I have been approached by many different people
with questions about my church, and about my beliefs
(or "cult practices" to those psycho analytical deuchefags.)
So. I will clarify things. If you are unsure, post your questions,
and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
Alright. Here goes nothing.

What ARE you?
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints;
or, in essence, a Mormon. Big shocker there, I know.
Didn't the anticipation just kill you?

Who is Joseph Smith?
Joseph Smith was the founder of the restored church, thus a prophet. As
a young boy, he was confused as to which practicing faith held true
to divine ties. While reading the Bible, He came across a verse which
explained that those who question need to pray to receive revelation of the truth.
So he went deep into the quiet woods near his house, and prayed. He was then visited by
two glorious beings: Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ; who, in valor to his severe and earnest intent,
explained to him that there was no true church, because the teachings had become to manipulated.
Joseph knew that what he had seen had heard were true (as do i) and he became the prophet of the restored
Church of Christ. He was visited by the Angel Moroni, who taught him about the Golden Plates.
He eventually was able to translate these ancience records, and the Book of Mormon was created.
{sorry this is so brief... and abridged... and colloquial...}
There's no way that happened, Kalynn....?
Umm..well...false. There is. And it did happen. Simply. Don't even
try to tell me I'm brain-washed. To those of you who have a problem with the Joseph Smith sketch,
think about this. So. Per se he was bored one day, and decided to write a book and establish his own religion
for his very own glory-trip. Okay, I can see where you're coming from. But, soon after, he began to be tarred and feathered,
his family whom he loved and treasured was put at risk. He was imprisoned in the most unfair and harsh conditions,
and starved unto the near point of death. ALright. Personally, this would probably be where I'd deliver my "jokes on me" punchline.
But he didn't. Even those who bore record of the plates themselves never denied them. Two of the three witnesses were
excommunicated for various personal reasons, and STILL testified of the truth of these great doctrines.
It's an incredible thing.
Isn't the Book of Mormon boring?
I won't lie to you. There are parts of the Book of Mormon that are pretty difficult to get through. Good things it's true,
because there is no way I could sit through a 531 pages story of death and war if I didn't feel an overpowering
validation of its truths and wonderful teachings. :) So, with that knowledge, the book is simply AMAZING.
I highly suggest you read it so you can see for yourself. Even you, Emily Cap and Jared Dahl, whether
it be in the dark of the night, or cozied in an attic. :P Just kidding. However, I have multiple copies and
I know lots of people with great insight if anyone's interested.
I'll finish later, I'mma go home to my mama now. :)
It's all about faith and testimony, kiddos.
Love, Kalynn Eve.
NOTES:
* I only say surprisingly, because I AM still in Utah. Who knew SUU would be filled with so many haters?

2.06.2011

"Perhaps imagination is only intelligence having fun."

Lately, I've had a lot of fun:

Eating at Brick Oven with Matthew.

Kicking butt in Black Jack at Casino Night.

Going to each of our favorite pizza places.
Kay: Little Caesars.
Matt: Papa Murphy's.
Em: Pizza Hut.

Playing Black Jack Dare, and having to stand in Alex's toilet...
yuck.

Watching Alex and Emily suck at suck or blow, and ending up having to kiss.
:]
I'm a fetchin' matchmaker. da best in da town, yo.

Getting cute notes from Emily to brighten my morning.

What do you have fun doing?

Adam countdown: 2 days!!!

My dear brother,

2.02.2011

I hope you realize all that I am doing for you,
so as to be able to see you the very day you get home.
That day I was scheduled to take three tests.
Yes, three.
Luckily, my teachers understood and they are willing to work with me.
However, it's been a lot of work on my part!
I had to move one of those tests clear up to today.
(I don't know if you noticed, but that's like..an entire week early.)
PLUS, it was a math test.
So I had to work ahead and do all the sections we'd be doing for the next week,
finish them early enough to turn in and have time to study before I took the test today.
Not to mention that my teacher assigns at least 50 problems every night.
And you know how good I am at math...
It's been a party.
I'm tellin' ya.
Anyway. I do think I kicked that test in the butt.
But I'll have to wait and see.
I feel like..so often when I think I've totally aced a test, it comes back to me....not aced.
Anyway.
One down, two to go.
All for you, Adam.
And to think you didn't even write me the last time you had a chance...

Is it wrong how excited I am for today?

1.27.2011

It's not a SUPER special day, but I am all smiles.
I get done with classes at noon,
which always happens on Tuesdays and Thursdays,
but it's even better today because
yesterday was a 5-classes-in-a-row day,
and a bunch of us are going to Cafe Rio for lunch.
I'm going to visit my sister, something I did less than a week ago,
but have the need to do again.
I have errands to run, and they are the fun kind.
I have yoga to do with Emily, one of the greatest kids you'll ever meet.
I have a meeting tonight; one with rad people.
There is a potential trip to my bed with a new book to read.
And a definite viewing of The Office with the boyfriend.
& I've already kicked today off with a good 30 minute scripture-reading session!
I love today.
Already.

Is there anything good going for YOU today?

--Kay.

Physically, I feel like poop.

1.18.2011

I have no energy.
I am utterly exhausted.
My body temperatures fluctuate like Katy Perry.
My head throbs.
My hands shake.
And my two-year-old attention span has been even more easily frustrated.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other news,

Today I had the most dry and boring algebra lecture I have ever been to in my life.
So instead of peeling my eyelids open and trying to stay awake/focused, I just paid attention to the random things other people were doing in class.

Lots of face-booking.
One girl was crocheting a scarf.
Lots of people texting.
but one thing caught my attention.
And thus I spent a solid 24 minutes watching the boy in front of me play tetris while our professor lectured on.
I found myself getting unreasonably irritated whenever he'd put a block in the wrong place.
I mean, he passed up an opportunity to vanquish four lines in one go; nOOb.

I need some new distractions.
That, or a better attention span.

{or both?}

I also had a solid conversation with my cheese tonight. I don't think that's normal.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can I make it until 8:00 for soup and quesadilla dinner and daily viewing of The Office with Matthew?

ughh.

Oh, uh...Love, Kalynn.

Ten things they fail to tell you before enrolling in college.

1.10.2011

1: It doesn't matter how well you managed your homework time in high school. You will be given more than ever before and you get no "late passes."

2: "Prerequisites" are pointless. They spend the first six weeks reviewing everything you should have known to take the class in the first place. Don't let that course-code jargon intimidate you.

3: You will do things you never thought you would do. Like snowboarding. Or having a Wii/ ramen party. Or simply smashing cake in someone's face. It will happen.

4: Textbooks are best used for stacking atop one another and mimicking a step-ladder for those things in hard-to-reach-places. (library bookshelves can go way up.)

5: When they tell you "it's okay if you don't know what you want to do with your life yet!", they are lying to you. You have a semester's worth of generals to figure it out, unless you want to overload your schedule with credit hours to graduate on time.

6: There's a high probability that sugar will become your best friend. Stick with it though, and avoid caffeine and energy drinks. Unless you want to wake up, 5 red bulls and 2 hours later, in a ball on the bathroom floor thinking those Chinese Communists you just spent all night reading about are after you...and forgetting you have a test in 45 minutes.

7: Work is important; but make sure you enjoy it. As soon as the university ships you off into the real world you better hope you love your career as much as you initially thought you would. Take advantage of being able to do whatever you want during your 4 years of undergrad school. fun fun fun fun fun. I mean...work*...eh...yeah.

8: Don't be sucked into that sorority rite-of-passage-bullshiza. If you feel left out, go color some Greek symbols on a t-shirt, or lack thereof, and strut around campus like a) you have nothing better to do with your life, and/or b) you're so hungover you don't know where you're going. You'll fit in perfectly and everyone will believe you.

9: Don't stop and take fliers from random people on campus. Especially not those advertising for Campus Rail Jam Tour. Just kidding. :) TAKE THEM!!

10: You will, most likely, be driven to the brinks of insanity.

:) But overall, it's really a lot of fun if you pick the right friends. And bring your boyfriend.

Love, Kalynn.

I am...

1.05.2011

I am feeling really good lately. Its a nice change having all of the happy and uplifting thoughts flood my mind. They are all coming so quickly and in massive groups, its slightly overwhelming. But wonderful, so wonderful. So much is changing, my days, my thoughts, my reactions, even my near future. I couldn't be happier about it all.

I am reading like crazy. I have piles of books, new and old, that I can't wait to dive into. Great Expectations, The Color Purple, The Sound and the Fury, The Sun Also Rises, Anna Karenina, War and Peace, The Catcher in the Rye (again. I read it every year...) The Pearl, Arabian Nights, A Little Princess...my list could go on and on.

I am learning Spanish! I'm excited to get back to school and start my second semester of it! I want to learn more and more. I need to become fluent in Spanish. I will speak fluent Spanish someday.

I am content. I like where I am right now. Obviously I'm no where near my goals and dreams, but for now as a freshman 19 year old, I feel content. I feel happy. I feel that I am doing good things for myself. And it doesn't get any better than that.

How are you?
Are you happy/content?
or still working to get there?

--Kalynn Eve

It was me again.

12.01.2010

Guess who got a 94
on her Spanish final
and a 100 on her
Final Spanish Oral?
-Guess who.

It was me.

11.06.2010

Guess who had a great time inCedar City this weekend?

As Always,
Kay.

Currently:

11.05.2010

1: All of my roommates are out.
2: I am feeling a little chilly.
3: I am enjoying a bottle of water.
4: My legs are sore because I wanted to see how I would do running over 7 miles. (not well.)
5: I wish I could chill with my brother Nathan.
6: I miss having less responsibility.
7: and more money.
8: I am feeling like...Cedar City is a great town to live in if:

a: You like cowboys.
b: You don't like having fun.
c: Your grandpa lives close.

I choose C.

Don't get me wrong, I am loving it here! but I haven't been here for very many weekends...and the weekends I AM here, just aren't up to par. We'll see if Kelsey and I find anything great to do with this one.

I think the only reason I am feeling like this is because I just signed up for my second semester classes on Wednesday night. and now I'm just...ready to be an elementary school teacher already! Today I found out that starting elementary school teachers in Utah make anywhere from $38,000-$51,000. Isn't that great! I mean, If I was going to be single for the rest of my life, that wouldn't be a lot of money. But I'll get married someday and that will be a nice little addition to my husband's income until our children arrive. I'm so excited to get paid for coloring, teaching letters and numbers, and watching talent shows, and show and tells and all that cool stuff!! It really will be fantastic.

Wanna hear a funny story?
I think it was Tuesday when I stepped into my car, turned my head, and saw a FREAKING SPIDER DANGLING FROM A BIG WEB. INSIDE my car. and when I jumped out of my car from fear of that leetle green spidey...well...I lost it. So i jumped back in and drove straight to a car wash. and i said "vacuum this out please!!!" So I go into the lobby to wait for them to clean and vacuum my car and there are three missionaries sitting there next to the only empty seat. So I sit down next to them and one of them says "have you ever heard of the LDS, or Mormon, church?"

haha. Right then and there I decided that I was going to pretend I was pretty clueless as to what they were talking about.

"Well..I just moved here for school, and..well..I'm in UTAH so I have heard a little about it. But not much." I said.
"Do you think you'd be interested in learning more?"

With this question, I raised my hand to my chin and said "ummm..."
and one of them missionaries says "wait! She's wearing a CTR ring!!"

I rarely lie, because I ALWAYS get caught.
Like this one time in high school. I was having a bad day so I told my teacher that I had an appointment with a counselor in the office so he would let me leave. Just a few minutes after, my mother, knowing I was having a bad day, called to check me out and take me to lunch. So when the office sends an aid with the check-out slip, my teacher is all "she's at an SEOP I thought...."

anyway.

dang them missionaries. I only wanted to give them some practice!!

Have a good weekend.
Love, Kay.

I'm a true T-bird! plus a quick story that you don't wanna miss!

10.16.2010

Quick Story.

To become a true T-bird, one must kiss a person of the opposite gender, or not, I suppose, at exactly midnight at this one statue we have on campus. ha. It's so fun. You get there like ten minutes early, just to be safe, and they're handing out chapstick, gum, mints...all that cool stuff. And the chapstick even says "I'm a true T-bird" on it! It was tight.

anyway.

I'M A TRUE T-BIRD!! It's funny just kissing in a very large group of people who are also kissing. Can you say make out party? I can. make out party.

so then at 12:05, we run across the street to where we have some water balloons stashed...(Matt's idea..) and then...we just start throwing them at everyone making out! haha. only. we didn't really pay attention to the big light that was over our wonderful hiding spot...and...everyone saw who we were and what we were doing. They didn't appreciate getting all wet. So we had to book it! We run to the other end of the field and...cool...fence with barbed wire. but we have no choice! We have to climb! So i throw my slippers over to the other side, and...do my best to climb bare foot. UNSUCCESSFUL. First, I completely grabbed the wire with my hand, yes there are holes in my hand now, and then I sat on the wire, yes, there are holes in my pants now, and then I accidentally ran both feet over the wire, yes there are horrid scratches on my feet now. And I'm all bleeding everywhere...but it's okay. It was SO much fun. Like. way fun. when I got home, Matthew, Emily, and Kayla help to make sure I don't have to get my feet and hands cut off by spraying my battle wounds with TONS of hydrogen peroxide. Never used the stuff? I don't recommend it. Sure, now my wounds are clean but OWWW. I wanted to cry! That stuff burns!

Anyway. I'm gonna go home now. :)

xoxo,
Kay.

Today.

9.21.2010

  • I slept through my first two classes...
  • But I did make it to Biology.
  • I re-filled four water bottles so as not to be a waster. Go Green!
  • I don't feel hungry at all.
  • I have drunk a lot of apple juice.
  • I don't have too much homework to do, but I do have to teach myself the Spanish that I missed today.
  • I have already done my personal scripture study. :)
  • I am quite excited for 6:30 p.m. to arrive, because then I get to go read to little children during story hour at the Cedar City Public Library.
  • I am excited for tutoring tomorrow. Jayce is progressing a lot already!
  • I have had the opportunity to dance and sing with my two wonderful roommates Abby and Kelsey to the marvelous Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is You" and Whitney Houston's "I will Always Love You."
  • I should straighten up my bathroom.
  • I should also do some laundry.
  • I am going to run an extra 2 miles at the gym for ending 2 miles early yesterday.
  • I am in love with the song "Oh Darling I love you so" by Plugin Stereo ft. Cady Groves.
  • and also the song playing on my blog.
  • I went to institute for the first time.
(Can I just say that I have MISSED that? I definitely took seminary for granted. Going from having seminary everyday with school, to not..is...hard. I missed it. I'm glad that I now know when I signed up for. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:00. :) yayy. )
  • Matthew and I decided that we are gonna go home for General Conference!
  • I'm excited for that because papa cooks really well for conference..

THOR CORPS!

That's SUU's very own Spirit club. and I am a member. SOOO, Naturally I went to our first home game. It was against San Diego. But I have to tell you something..I wasn't paying very much attention. It was fine because in the end, we won 22 to 3. It was a blow out. We killed them!!! And this is what I did instead...

and that's just a few of them.... :)
As you can tell, we're having a lof of fun.
Go SUU!
Love, Kalynn!!!!!!

Dear Blah-g,

9.03.2010

I'm sorry that you have become BLAH since I have hardly taken any time to update you as of late.

What the story is,
is that I am loving college to the highest degree.

People were right, you know. SUU is a party school. but that doesn't mean that we don't get our work done! I swear we do. We just always get it done by 5, and THEN the partying gets done.

Let me tell you a little about my experience in the classroom first.

I actually love my classes. Well. Most of them. I'm taking Spanish 1! Did you know?? and I LOVE it. I have it Monday-Thursday. Right now we're learning how to tell time. I'm pretty good at learning languages, I think. Cause.. I feel like I'm learning really fast..and. anyway. It's fun. It's my favorite class. And then of course...I'm an English nerd..so I'm loving that too! Although, we haven't had the opportunity to write any papers yet. I'm getting excited for that though!

....

Okay. So those are the only two classes I really like. But the others are bearable.

What I really enjoy about college though, is that I have made so many new friends since being here! And we have so much fun every single day. I don't know how we do it..we just do. Take last night for example...We played the game Ultimate Uno (also known to some people as Mau) with ten people..and it was hilarous and intense and...haha. Some people were getting really upset. Like..Cody...he doesn't like to lose.

Other activities include: Going to Jeff Nye, the stand up comedian.

Me, Emily, Abby, and Kelsey
Kelsey, Cody, Trent

Having Cafe Rio Mondays

Going on silly string rampages..

I like being in college.

Hasta Luego,

Kay.

Hello Sunshine!!

8.23.2010

First of all, I would just like to say that

College is fun!!

Early Thursday morning I woke up and loaded a TON of stuff into my mama's van and my stuff filled up the entire thing. Who even knew I had so much stuff to live with?! And we started heading down to Cedar City! My sister Melissa drove with me and and we had fun talking and singing to music the whole way down. (minus the part where the guy with the trailer fish tailed like a maniac and nearly took the whole freeway off the side of the road with him...needlessto say, since I am alive, I am a good driver and avoided our near-death.) Upon arriving at Southern Utah University, 4 or 5 HUGE football players ran over and asked if they could help move my stuff to my room! This was a pleasant surprise, because I hate making mulitple trips to bring stuff in. It was such a warm welcome! It instantly made me happy. And then I was greeted by my lovely roommates!! I have much to say about them, but I am going to save that for a post I will be doing in a day or two, when I actually have pictures of them to put up. I keep forgetting to take those. But really. I got lucky. I love them all! I can't wait to tell you about them!

My first weekend here was filled with "Flightschool", which is a knock off of us being T-birds. Get it? Flightschool was preparing us to "take flight" into our college careers! Woo hoo!...ha. No. But it was okay. It was fun seeing a BUNCH of people whom I adore from Snow Canyon, including Paige Ovard, Cody Patterson, Robbie Hillstead, Kaleb Hurst, Brody Fausett, Tyler Miller, Sam Wilde..etc...Great people. It was fun seeing them again! and I love being here with three of my best friends, Abigail Richards, Matthew Ludlow, and Braden Perucca. I seriously..would be having a difficult time without them. They are my family here.

I've had a lof of fun spending my time watching movies, playing volleyball, playing ultimate frisbee, walking around campus, having morning dance parties, going to the cool dance party at the Harris Center, and getting used to this new leetle town.

I like living on my own in these cute little dorms. I don't even mind that they are so small! And I am especially happy with the size of my closet, because I thought I had to leave half of my clothes behind, which I did, but my closet here is so big that I can bring up the rest after my next visit home! yay.

BRB AF.

miss you. sort of.

love, Kalynn.

Ope. See ya...

7.29.2010

3 weeks.
{that's all it took for me to fall for you, John.}
just kidding. That's a line from a potentially really lovely chick flick, that was..massacred. That's all. anyway.

3 Weeks.
And then I'm moving away to Cedar to live on my own and become one of these.

I'm stoked. I'm ready.
except for my really long packing list.
a list from which I have probably 17 out of the 50 billion things needed to live on one's own.
but it's okay, because mama and I are going shopping next week for all that good stuff.
like a mini crock pot.

also. I forgot to mention that a few days ago I made banana bread for the first time ever on my own, and it was SCRUMPTIOUS.
Just sayin'.

Everybody said so.

And I'll tell you one more thing:
I fear that I may never see my best friend again since Tuesday came along. Why Tuesday? Starcraft 2. at midnight. Took 'em long enough. My oldest brother used to play Starcraft 1 when he was like 5 years old. They're just barely coming out with a Starcraft 2? It's not like I would even usually know about such things coming to pass. But he'd been waiting for that day for a long time and I've been hearing about it all along the way.

"Hey. One of your closest friends Drew leaves on his mission this Wednesday..."-Kalynn.
"Hey..Starcraft 2 comes out this Wednesday!" -Matthew.

I will also mention that he stayed up until 5:00 in the morning playing it once he had his hands on it. At least he's taking a break from Call of Duty?
haha. no. I LOVE C.O.D.

I'm really good at it.
anyway. I guess that's what I get for having a nerd as my best friend.
A very attractive nerd, but a nerd nonetheless.

Your friend,
Kalynn.
