TIM + FAITH!!!!!!!

9.30.2017

It was clear back in February that I bought two tickets for Cami and I to go see Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in concert. I wanted to give them to her for her birthday, which wasn't until May, so I had to keep them a secret for 3 months! THEN the concert wasn't until September 27th, so we had even longer to wait! FINALLY after what seemed like an eternity, the day came and we were able to fulfill a life-long dream of seeing Tim and Faith on tour. They blew our highest expectations out of the water! I was amazed by their talent, and literally brought to tears at one point by their love for each other, haha. It's so cheesy, but I'm just super proud of them for being famous and staying married for 21 years with no end in sight?! They're seriously just incredible people. It was the most incredible show. It's gotta be all downhill from here!

LAGOON

8.19.2017

I love a good, scary rollercoaster. Can't get enough of 'em! I wish Utah had something a little better to offer in that way, but Lagoon just has to do sometimes! My best friends and I all had a blast spending the day at Lagoon on Thursday. I was still trying to get over a cold, so the day was exhausting, but still oh-so much fun. We all loved their newest ride, the Cannibal! I could've gone on it over and over. Also, being at theme parks always makes me excited for the day I get to bring my own kids to one??? I just die over those little darlings having the time of their lives and experiences such grand things for the first time.

What are you up to this weekend? I've got a busy week comin' up, so I'm hoping the weekend goes by slowly, and I can just really take in every second of it.

4th OF JULY WEEKEND

7.06.2017

I'm really not sure if a better 4th of July weekend has ever been experienced! It was all of my favorite things all packed into a few days! We started off the weekend by meeting Cami and Kyle up at their family cabin. I was thrilled to take Jake there! I have been up there a number of times with a bunch of friends, and was always eagerly looking forward to the day when I could bring someone I love up there. We shot guns, ate some good food, and thoroughly enjoyed each others' company and the great outdoors. Cami and I were inside just giggling away as the boys were outside cooking the brats for dinner. We kept spying on them, trying to watch how they interacted and how their conversation flowed. For as long as we've been friends, we've been saying that we can't wait to force our significant others to be friends, haha. What a relief that those two actually like each other and get along! Cami and I are so happy about it. :)

As always, I loved being with those three! Friends don't get any better. I can't say it enough that I've got the best people in my life!

Mid-afternoon on Saturday, Jake and I drove straight from one cabin to the next! We spend the next couple of days at Jake's family Cabin with his family. They're really great at making you feel just like you're family. We spent our days doing puzzles, making bracelets and keychains out of boondoggle, eatings TONS of good food, roasting s'mores and popping popcorn over the fire, and getting a lot of good snuggles in with the nieces and nephews. We also spent a day on the reservoir! The water was freezing, and Jake took it upon himself to make sure everyone became accommodated to the water by dunking them under. What a guy, right?! ;) Haha, but really, we were having a blast, and I was pretty sad to leave when it all came to an end!

From Jake's cabin, we drove straight to my mom's house, where we had about 20 minutes to freshen up before our pre-4th of July BBQ started! As per Petersen Family Tradition, we ate a delicious spread and followed it up with some croquet. Of course Jake comes in his first year playing and gets first place. insert-eye-roll-here. haha, just kidding. He earned it, even though I was the first one he decided to kill off after he claimed poison status, haha.

Then we did a few (pretty lame, but still fun) fireworks in the front yard before putting the boys down and eating some mud pie while playing a board game. I love this family of mine, and I love our long-standing traditions!

4th of July day was THE most perfect summer day!! I feel just completely spoiled that I'm constantly having so much fun because of the things Jake plans! After a yummy crepe breakfast with my family, Jake suggested that I pull out my old rollerblades. I hadn't pulled them out in yeeeears. Like, we're talkin' 10+ years. But we pulled 'em out, washed 'em off (I made Jake triple check to make sure there weren't any spiders in them, haha) and they surprisingly still fit perfectly! And then Jake suggested my worst nightmare---DUN, DUN, DUN---riding down Provo Canyon!! My initial reaction? noooooooooooo pleeeeease nooooo! And if you know me, then you understand why! I am just pretty klutzy and unbalanced by nature! I trip over my own feet every single day, and I just knew that trying to rollerblade down the canyon would end my life. But..ah, my Jake. He's such a happy guy, and he's asked to long board down the canyon multiple times, and I just didn't want to disappoint him! So I reluctantly gave in, and we made our way to Provo Canyon.

Well, turns out I was a wreck, haha. As I was putting on my blades at the point of the canyon where we were going to start, my legs and hands were shaking so badly. It's dumb and embarrassing that I was so nervous, but that's just how it was, haha. But there's just something about Jake, you know? I get a lot of strength from him. He provided me with a substantial about of strength the few weeks leading up to my dad's passing, and I didn't realize how much that would continue to carry over into other things as well. Like blading the canyon. He was on his long board, I was on my rollerblades, and we really only went like 3 miles up the canyon, but he held my hand the whole way down. And during the parts of the canyon when I would start to get especially nervous, he'd sing me a country song to help distract me. I'm telling you guys, IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN JAKE! If you can't tell by now, I survived the canyon. Didn't even fall once, thanks to that hunky man. Owe him my life. And also probably a million dollars. Also still glad it's over though, and next time Jakes wants to long board the canyon, I'm riding my bike. :) haha.

After sweating our guts out in the 100 degree canyon, we headed to Rock Canyon Park where Jake's friends were having a big slip n' slide party! That was so much fun. The slip n' slide was huge! We got to go down a few times, I got to meet more of Jake's friends, and we were able to cool off a bit.

Riding the canyon, slip n' sliding... what would we do next to make it the ultimate summer day? Get SNOW CONES!! I think I might've died and gone to heaven eating those snow cones. So good. Plus, they had cute little American flags in them, and I just really liked that for some reason.

Next we went to get cleaned up, watched the Sandlot, and then went to a party in Orem where we met up with Jake's parents, got free food truck food, and got to watch the best firework show in the county! The 4th of July has always been my favorite holiday, but it just seems to get better and better every year! I love summer! I love America! I love Jake!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you all (mom and Julie, most likely) had a wonderful 4th of July! :)

My Best Friends' Wedding

10.02.2016

This embarrassing little photo is the first picture Cami and I took together, along with our friend Brielle, of course. :) It was September 2013. We had randomly been put together as roommates at Ventana, and had been living with each other for maybe a few weeks when we all decided to go shopping for some apartment decor. We ended up finding out we all had a love for Duck Dynasty and came home with matching cups and a Duck Dynasty Calendar, haha. We've been best friends ever since.

THIS is a picture from the first time I met Kyle. He's the dude doing the Chandler Smiles in the green hat and sunglasses. His cousin Kincade and childhood friend Keola both lived at Ventana with me as well, and when we all decided to go float the Provo River, Kyle came along. This was July 2014. That same summer we all went on a couple trips to Zion, and Kyle and I became good friends pretty quickly.

I was lucky to find this great group of friends, and my relationships with each of them were/are unique and special in their own ways.

Kyle is a different kind of guy. It's hard to describe. If I've ever needed help with anything, he's there to offer his help before I can even ask. He also has this ability to make everyone feel like they're the greatest person he's ever come across. I don't know how he does it! But whenever I've felt the worst about myself, it's been Kyle who builds me back up. Cami is just...she's my girl. She's always the first one I go to for the hardest or happiest things that come along, and even though I'm not the perfect friend, she treats me like I am, and loves me no matter what. She's SUCH a gem. There's really no one like her! So, of course it didn't take Kyle very long to realize that she was the girl her wanted to keep forever! Unfortunately for Kyle, she was dating someone else for a while, and even after they broke up, she just didn't think she had those kind of feelings for Kyle. It was hard to watch, because Kyle is honestly one of the best guys I'll ever know. But in a way, I'm glad it took Cami so long to come around, because Kyle and I got really close during those times.

Fast forward two years, and Cami finally realized that she never wanted to lose our dear friend Kyle, and things moved quickly from there! FINALLY they are married, and I keep saying that it was the best day of my life! Haha, but it's true. When you get to see your best friends' dreams come true...not even your own happiness beats that. Their wedding day was pure bliss for everyone there.
I'm still on an emotional high from this weekend!

I just hope they both realize that it was a two-for-one kinda deal, cause I'm never giving up either of them. ;)

Nathan.

2.26.2013

Today is Nathan's 20th birthday. Can you even believe that?!
We're only a year apart, so of course he's 20, but it just seems so old to me.

Do any of you remember him before his drowning accident?
Ah, he was the sweetest kid. He was my very best friend. (still is.)
As each year passes, it gets harder for me to believe that he has been this way for more of his life than he hasn't been this way.
It's been a little over 11 and a half years since his accident.
Still, I remember his voice and try to think of what he would sound like now.
I know the kinds of girls he had crushes on, and I sometimes try to imagine what kind of girls he'd be interested in now.
He was a little cutie back then, and he's definitely still a hunk now!
Most importantly, I know he's still the same incredibly amazing person on the inside, even if he can't express it as well right now.

I couldn't be more grateful to have Nathan as my brother. I feel so blessed. You won't ever meet anyone whose light shines brighter.

Happy birthday, Nathan Todd!  I love you!!

p.s. Thank you all for the support you guys have shown me and my family in regards to Nathan throughout the years and even still.
You really have no idea how much it means to us,
and it's your examples of service and love that have helped shape who I am today. :)

Best friend.

2.21.2013

If only I could explain how much this human means to me.

From going to the temple with me every week, to eating way too much popcorn, she is by my side whenever I need her.
Simple as that.

I hope you all have a best friend like this girl.

The one with the new girl!

Just a few

8.04.2010

minor reasons that
Matthew David Ludlow

is my
best friend.

1. We go on actual dates quite a bit. Which I like. {And it's usually something not uber expensive that is a ton of fun.}
2. Last night, he took me to Olive Garden. mmmmm! Chicken con broccoli. 3. My family would love to know that he is the perfect gentleman and he opened all my doors. {even when he barely fit in on that side...}
4. He then watched PONYO with me. Ponyo is the best Japanese anime movie EVER. It's pretty childish..but it's utterly fantastic and adorable. {Seriously. I HIGHLY recommend it.}
5. He LOVED Ponyo too!!
6. Sometimes he is oblivious which makes it easy to attack him and give him wedgies. hahahah!...
7. He showed me Badger Badger. hahah.
8. And We don't need no stinking badges!!
9. He cut my badger.
10. He turned on Owl City's "The Bird and the Worm" on his phone while we sat on my tramp and deciphered what the clouds were and, when it got darker, tried to find Orion's Belt. Not an easy thing.
11. He counts the raindrops that fall on him and freaks out when there are so many that he loses count. haha.

Have fun on your fishing trip, Matthew. I'll miss you. :)

As always,
Kalynn.

A weekend comprises the two traditionally non-working days in a seven-day week..

Family reunion.

yay??

To be honest I wasn't the most excited person in the world for it. But looking back, I don't really know why I wasn't. Because it was a blast, and I should've known that it would be. I always have a good time with the whole fam damily. (Grandpa Stott's favorite thing to say. {I'm his spitting image.})

The plans were to meet up at Discovery Park at noon. What really happened though was, me and mother and grandpa Stott and my step-grandma Zelda sat around at the park until 2:00 when everyone got there. We started things off by taking turns in groups playing bocci ball and badminton.

  • although, this little kid {my cousin's son} tried to accomplish both at the same time. Adorable, yeah?

Other activities included a family BBQ, skits/program, learning about the elderly of the family, chatting, coloring, crafts, water balloon volleyball, pinata, eating candy, and..
the water fight.
My family brought water guns as part of our skit thing and that's where it all began. I had all the little munchkins on my side as we tried to get Julie and Derek. We ran around and around that pavilion doing our best to soak my older siblings. When Derek and I were drenched we decided to take a picture together.
  • That's when this little beauty was captured.
Just as Julie snapped the pic., my cousin D.J. comes around with a huge bowl of water and totally pwns us unaware. I have to admit: he got us good.
don't worry though. With a really great plan, we got him back. :)
  • here's us together soaking at the end of the night. {I promise he's just as wet and I am, you just can't tell cause his hair isn't as long.}

Saturday presented a baseball game in Brigham City.

That's just a random city about 2 hours north of here.

It was a lot of fun. Driving two hours with some of my favorite people {Matthew Ludlow, Matthew Finn, Alyssa Jensen...And Benji Shepard, but I don't really know him.} was certainly a great time. Whether it was racing the hispanic kids that kept waving at us, Matt's riddles, not being able to find a bathroom, too much candy and popcorn, losing 24-2 {when those boys are normally really good}, being squished by tired boys, or watching fireworks and being celebratory of Steel Days on the way home, I wasn't bored for a single second.
